Health Care: Open enrollment extended

The annual open enrollment period for purchasing private health insurance for the 2022 plan year has been extended by the federal government from Nov. 1 to Jan. 15.

Due to the American Rescue Plan, Oregonians will have access to the largest financial savings ever available through the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace as a result of the extension. The American Rescue Plan increased savings by removing the maximum income restriction for financial help and lowering the amount of premium that consumers must pay before receiving tax credits.

Since April 1, when the terms of the American Rescue Plan went into force, more than 80% of Oregonians have been certified to be eligible for financial assistance through the Marketplace.

Under the extended eligibility, Oregonians are getting an average of $437 per month in premium tax credits to lower their monthly premium.

Do you still require health insurance in 2021?

It's possible that you'll be able to enroll during a special enrollment period. To get to the correct application or to contact an insurance agent or community partner group to help you complete the application and enroll, go to OregonHealthCare.gov.

If you don’t act by January 15, 2022, you can’t get 2022 coverage unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Enroll by December 15, 2021 for coverage that starts January 1, 2022.

You can preview 2022 plans and prices now and complete your enrollment starting November 1.

Free local one-on-one assistance is provided by insurance brokers and community partners. This assistance is provided digitally, over the phone, and in person, as long as safety rules are followed.
